Social Hour!

The weekend’s practically here, but before we all jet off to indulge in our candy cravings, we’d like to partake in a little “Social Hour” – SMP style. Let’s take a look back on all the sweet things that caught your interest this week on Pinterest and Instagram, from cakes almost too amazing to cut, to dresses we can’t stop swooning. It’s Friday, so come back for seconds if you want; we won’t tell.

White-on-White Santa Monica Winter Wedding

Now that your Halloween sugar high is in full effect, we decided to round out this Friday with one of the prettiest white-on-white weddings we’ve ever come across. It’s what happens when My Bride Story takes the style reigns for a day anchored in classic design + glam winter whites, and the captures from Erin Hearts Court? Well, they’re the kind of photos that’ll remain timeless forever.

From The Bride…Jon and I met in Santa Monica on Carmageddon weekend when the 405 was closed and everyone stayed put and hung out in their neighborhoods. We met at a pizza parlor and spent the next year and a half living and enjoying life at the beach. Jon proposed on a sunny afternoon while we were walking on the beach. He had the whole thing planned out perfectly and we stayed the night at Casa del Mar, which is just down the street from our apartment. I knew right away that we should also get married there and he agreed. Step one of wedding planning was done.

The only thing I knew beyond the location was that I wanted a white wedding with no bridal party. We have five families between the two of us and we wanted each one of our family members to be a part of the wedding. We chose one of my brothers to be the wedding officiant and everyone else would walk down the aisle wearing whatever they chose.

While searching wedding websites for ideas I saw a wedding that I thought was beautiful. I contacted the planner, Esther Kim, we met and I knew she was perfect. The rest of the planning was fun and easy. Esther and I worked so well together and the finished product was better than anything I could have ever dreamed of.

Jon and I designed a wedding ceremony that matched our personalities and showed the tremendous amount of love we have for one another. The room for the ceremony was lit with candles and filled with white flowers. It was truly breathtaking and our favorite part of the day. It really was the best day of our lives, getting to celebrate with all our friends and family from near and far. We can’t thank our families enough for all their love and support. We look forward to working with Esther to help us celebrate future milestones.

Elegant Halloween Wedding Inspiration

If I’m being honest, “elegance” isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when I think of a Halloween shoot. But thanks to the style-driven vision of Heather Benge Events, we’re proving this spooky-scary holiday can lend some pretty gorgeous inspiration for the Big Day and beyond. F. Dellit Designs put together the blooms, For Heavens Cake crafted the sweets, and Awake Photography snapped the goodies here.

From Heather Benge EventsFor this inspiration shoot, I decided to incorporate the colors of Halloween in an elegant way. With this dramatic holiday falling on a Friday this year and a Saturday next year, I figured combining the colors we all relate to Halloween with some simple elegance could make a big statement. In my opinion, it did! Black, Peach, White and lots of greenery really gave the shoot the elegance I was after. We decided to shoot out in a field to really show off our design and concept without it getting lost in a venue.

It was pouring rain the whole day, but for a brief moment (literally about 15 minutes) it decided to ease up and left us with the most dramatic sky. The stationery suite was designed with a bold stripe to give a modern feel. The tablescape incorporated lots of gold details with high and low floral elements. My favorite design element of the whole shoot are the Mr. and Mrs. chairs. The silhouette decals are unique and tell a story.

You immediately know when looking at the table which chairs are for the bride and groom. Fits the theme perfectly, don’t you think? This concept started out as a tiny idea earlier this year when a bride hired me to design their wedding the day after Halloween. I thought how fun it would be to use the holiday as an inspiration in an unexpected way. I couldn’t be more happy with how this shoot turned out. Hope you enjoy the photos!

An Ode to Halloween: Our Favorite Black Gowns

Truth be told, we struggle with Halloween around these parts. Spooky and scary doesn’t always equal stylish. BUT we will never turn away a good reason to celebrate, so today, in honor of this ghoulish holiday, we will raise our goblets filled with witches brew (aka champagne) to some of the most stunning black gowns you ever did see on SMP. We promise they’ll give you the good kind of chills.
